Workstation: faster manual chopping and kneading

The quick answer

A Workstation speeds up manual Chop and Knead actions; it does not process ingredients automatically. Its documented rate is 2×, compared with a Counter’s 0.75×, or about 2.67 times the Counter rate on the same baseline.

Wiki base action rates; tools and cards can modify actual processing time. The speed ratio is a calculation, not a new timed test.

Use it by hand

Put an ingredient that can be chopped or kneaded on the Workstation, then hold Interact until processing finishes. It does not start automatically like a Mixer.

The surface can hold carried items and be used for combinations, but its speed improvement applies to Chop/Knead, not every possible action. A finished ingredient with no remaining Chop or Knead action does not gain a new processing state.

Research the blueprint

Store an upgradable Counter blueprint in a Blueprint Cabinet. Research it during service with the adjacent Research Desk. The variants are Freezer and Workstation, and further research can cycle between them.

Check the current blueprint name and upgrade indicator before buying. Purchased Counters cannot be upgraded by bringing them near a research desk.

Compare the actual baseline

Surface Documented Chop/Knead rate
Counter 0.75×
Workstation 2×

On the same baseline, 2 ÷ 0.75 ≈ 2.67. Calling it simply “twice as fast as a Counter” would miss the Counter’s own rate. This is a calculation from the documented fields, not a stopwatch test.

Choose a Workstation when the player still spends a lot of time chopping or kneading. Choose a Mixer when the aim is to make that action happen without the player. With tools, cards or other speed changes, do not assume the same practical processing seconds.
