PlateUp! Ice Cream Automation: Dessert vs Sundaes

The quick answer

Ice Cream dessert uses a bowl with two or three scoops; Sundaes uses a glass and separate service steps. Three flavours give 16 dessert combinations. Automating one fixed bowl is not an all-orders solution.

Unmodded Steam PC mechanics, documented by the community wiki and applicable 1.5 update notes. A content review is not a claim of testing every platform or setup.

Identify Ice Cream or Sundaes

Ice Cream dessert and Sundaes are different recipes. A solution that supplies scoops to a Sundae Glass does not automatically assemble an Ice Cream dessert order.

Check Ice Cream dessert Sundaes main dish
Serving container A bowl created when taking scoops A Sundae Glass served to the customer
Base service Prepare the requested two or three scoops, then serve the bowl Supply the glass and flavours as they are requested
Flavours Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry Depends on the selected starting recipe and its supplies
Supply route Ice Cream provider Ready-to-scoop provider or Homemade production

The dessert’s three flavours form 16 possible two- or three-scoop combinations when scoop order is ignored. A ten-combination guide is only counting the three-scoop cases. Being able to make one bowl automatically does not cover all dessert orders.

Begin with a useful partial automation

For the dessert, Interact cycles the provider’s flavour and Grab takes a scoop. Match the flavours and scoop count in the order. If you automate a fixed flavour, configure and test that provider before connecting its output; an assembly line still needs to produce a bowl the current customer can accept.

Keep manual flavour selection and final serving while improving access to providers and prepared bowls. Fully assembling every combination requires more routing and storage than producing one fixed bowl. This guide does not supply an untested all-combinations layout or claim one provider automatically chooses customer orders.

The 1.4 update added splitting of ice-cream servings, and the 1.4.2 notes explicitly describe customers taking a single scoop from a bowl. That makes scoop-based service possible, but it does not make every mixed bowl suitable for every order. Test the requested flavour, remaining contents and accessibility instead of relying on an old fixed-combination count.

Sundaes and Buffet service

With Sundaes I: Scoops, the ice cream is ready to take from the provider. With Sundaes II: Homemade, mix sugar and milk in a Mixing Bowl, freeze it, add the chosen flavouring and mix. The documented batch makes five portions. The bowl-and-freezer production line is a different problem from switching the ready-to-scoop provider.

A Sundae customer first needs a glass. Then serve requested scoops and any unlocked toppings or syrups. For a Buffet setup, check that the customer can reach the correct items and that supply is replenished. The 1.5 update fixed a case where several customers ordering the same Sundae could become stuck; older behaviour reports may predate that fix.

Check the whole order before expanding

Failure Check
Advice mentions glasses but your customers want bowls You are following a Sundaes solution for the Ice Cream dessert
A prepared bowl is rejected Compare flavours and scoop count with the current request
Provider keeps outputting the wrong flavour Check its selected flavour and the output filter
Homemade supply runs out Follow milk/sugar, freezing, flavour mixing and portioning in order
Customers wait despite stocked food Check glass supply, requested extras, Buffet access and the rest of their group’s order

Use automation basics for arrows and filters, and Buffet service for customer paths. PC mods or unusually large maps may solve space constraints differently; they are not prerequisites assumed by this unmodded guide.
