Black Coffee automation: return cups and serve

The quick answer

Pull an empty cup from the Coffee Machine and return it to a machine to fill for three seconds. Use two Rotating Grabbers for the return route and a Smart Grabber trained on Black Coffee at the finished exit.

Black Coffee in unmodded Steam PC play. Extra coffee recipe cards require separate processing; Banquet Dining is a specific automatic-order condition.

Empty cup is not finished coffee

A Coffee Machine provides empty cups. Place an empty cup on a machine and it automatically fills in 3 seconds. Black Coffee does not burn and does not create the ordinary dirty-plate washing loop.

Build a compact return module

The documented module uses 1 Coffee Machine, an adjacent Counter or second Coffee Machine, 2 Rotating Grabbers and 1 Smart Grabber.

Arrange the machine and adjacent receiving tile along one side of the module. The two Rotating Grabbers form the return side, taking the empty cup around the neighboring position and back to the filling machine. The outside Smart Grabber is the finished-coffee exit. A second Coffee Machine can also fill an empty cup; a Counter only holds it and must pass it back into the route.

  1. Make a Black Coffee by hand in Practice Mode.
  2. Train the exit Smart Grabber on that filled cup, not an empty cup.
  3. Check one cycle: empty cup pulled, returned, filled and removed as Black Coffee.
  4. Only then connect the delivery end. Keep the return positions and finished exit clear.

A filter trained on the wrong state can deliver empty cups. A blocked return tile or output can stop production. The module explanation follows the documented equipment list and visible loop, not a new timed playtest.

Self-service still has an order condition

Deliver finished coffee to a customer-reachable Conveyor or an ordinary Buffet. Customers can take matching food from a Buffet, but an ordinary restaurant still needs orders taken.

A Banquet Hall with Banquet Dining has a separate automatic-order feature. Adding a Buffet to an unrelated map does not grant that condition.

Latte, Iced Coffee, Tea, sugar and milk cards introduce their own recipe or order branches. Old Combiner interactions with Milk Steamers and Ice Dispensers changed after 1.4.3; use the corresponding Portioner source rules. This guide covers Black Coffee production and the stated delivery conditions, not every extra recipe or an all-menu “easiest” ranking.
